With a range of venues (suitable for 30 to 300 guests) the spaces also include a licensed bar, dancefloor, projector screens, stage, theatre seating, Wi-Fi and PA system; all included without any additional charge.
With a city centre location, easy access to Buchanan bus station and Queen Street train station, and free on-street parking after 6pm and at weekends – bookings can be made via the Strath Union website, or you can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Strathclyde Students’ Union President, Matt Crilly, said: “With a lot of the students being away for the summer, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to open up the space to the wider city before we move to our new location in 2020.
“The Union building has seen a lot of different events over the years. From paint parties to providing a starting platform for some of the biggest and best musical artists; we even hosted a wedding reception last month to a couple who actually met at Strathclyde. So it’s fair to say that our spaces are fairly versatile.”
Dr Joy Leckie from University of Strathclyde and and her husband, Kevin Peek, recently hosted their wedding reception within the Union’s Barony Bar, having met during their undergraduate degrees at Strathclyde.
Joy said: “We had a great night celebrating our big day in the Barony Bar. We both studied at Strathclyde and spent many of our student years in the Barony Bar together, so to have our wedding reception in the same venue was amazing and brought back many great memories.
“All of our guests complimented the venue and catering, saying it was just perfect for us. We were able to go in and decorate the space to make our celebration that extra bit special. All the staff in the Union was so helpful, and always at hand if there was anything we needed help with. For its central location and services, it really was an ideal venue for us.”
The free venue hire applies to licensed and catering events in the Barony Bar and Vertigo.
