Today, March 8^th, is International Women’s Day and the theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias. The focus is that all individuals should actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time they see it. You can get involved with the campaign online by following the hashtag BreakTheBias across social media.

This IWD we spoke with one society breaking the bias at Strathclyde, the Women in Leadership Network. This is a busy week for the society with their highly anticipated #CelebrateHer Awards Ball happening this Thursday March 10th.
 

Tell us a bit about where and when WILN meet up and what your meetings entail?
 

Typically, every Tuesday 7pm, details are always shared on our social media! Each meeting is different, we have ‘Let’s Talk’ events that cover current issues or problems that many of us face, ‘Let’s Learn’ events help teach our members something new from CV and Interview help to LinkedIn and even Poker which was a social too. We hold several networking and panel events throughout the year with businesses too, such as BP, Barclays, and Enterprise.

How would you describe the #CelebrateHer awards to someone who hasn’t attended before?
 

A night to celebrate the fantastic Strathclyde community! There are so many inspiring and empowering women here at Strathclyde and #CelebrateHER is a chance to shine a spotlight on them.

The Ball includes a chance to network over a sit down 3 course meal before an inspiring speech from our guest speaker. All 10 Award winners are announced by our committee on the night, and it is always incredible to see the winners' reactions!

This year we have added 3 new awards of Sustainability, Break the Bias, and Recognition. We have also kept our value awards we added last year along with our original 4 departmental awards. On the night we also have incredible raffle prizes up for grabs with the money going to Strut Safe. 
 

Does the society have any role models or inspirational women in leadership they look up to?
 

Over on Instagram we share an inspirational woman every Monday as part of our Motivational Monday series. This week’s inspirational woman is poet and activist, Amanda Gorman.
