With the publishing of the Strategic Alliance Framework 2026/27, Strath Union and the University of Strathclyde have reasserted their shared ambitions of enhancing Strathclyde's student experience through meaningful collaboration.

The fifth edition of the SAF continues to set itself against the past successes of its previous iterations whilst continuing to enhance broad areas of the University. Visions and deliverables on student support, inclusion and equality, enhancement of student activities, and the wider University experience reflect the priorities of current student voice through collaborative action.

Collaborative Action and Communication

The Strategic Alliance Framework is a one-year agreement between the executive teams of The University of Strathclyde and Strathclyde Students' Union, and outlines the joint visions and deliverables both organisations will work towards delivering on in the current academic year. Built on the Student Partnership Agreement, the SAF comes as a progression of embedding student voice throughout Strathclyde into tangible actions led by student representatives.

The SAF shows the strong relationship held between the University and Strath Union which leads towards the enhancement of Strathclyde's student experience and the strengthening of student voice through all areas of the University. The SAF has goals from the Chaplaincy, Sport at Strathclyde, to Faculties/Departments, reflecting how far reaching student voice is at Strathclyde.

International Student Support

A significant vision of the SAF is deliverables on the international student experience. Responding to student concerns on making the most of their time at Strathclyde as international students, the student executive are collaborating on delivering multiple actions:

  • Streamlined Support Signposting
  • Online Forum for International Students
  • Successful Transitions for Late-Arriving Students
  • Compassionate Approach to Visa Communication

Enhancing Student Experience

Many deliverables seek to enhance the rich experience students receive at Strathclyde. Through platforming student voice within the development and participation of sports at Strathclyde, students can take advantage of opportunities of growth and success within sports.

Student consultation within other areas of Strathclyde such as the chaplaincy and campus spaces can allow a reflection of student needs throughout the services Strathclyde provides, ensuring strong representation of demand for all aspects of student life.

Increasing Wider Opportunities

The SAF featured many deliverables on increasing the plethora of opportunities out with of studies that students can get involved with, as well as recognising achievements beyond the classroom.

Through increasing visible employability opportunities as a collaborative goal between both organisations, services can become more visible to students allowing individuals to seize a wealth of opportunities.

Continuing the campaign of civic involvement on campus from the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Elections, highlighting civic activity not only in the local region but on campus allows students to increase their knowledge in the civic society and become informed voters.

Along with this proliferation of opportunities, the recognition of achievements in extra-curricular activities within a student's academic journey increases the visibility and value of a student's contributions to the wider community.

Looking Forward

Through the tracking and success of this and past iterations of the SAF, Strathclyde ensures student voice is a valued and meaningful part of progress within our community. As the SAF evolves year on year, it adapts to the changing landscape students find themselves in. Through the student-led creation of the agreement, along with the collaboration with the University, the SAF ensures a success partnership between students and staff at the University of Strathclyde.
