Sarah tells us about her experience as a volunteer with Strath Union:

“I became a volunteer because I am studying to become a secondary school teacher and was looking to gain experience working with young people. Volunteering gave me this experience and much more, I learned leadership skills and feel that I have added value to my CV.”

“I was worried about fitting volunteering in alongside my studies and didn’t want to lose focus on my Uni work. However, the support offered to me from the Volunteering Team quickly alleviated any worries I had.  The volunteering options are flexible and we worked together as a team, so if I had to miss a meeting, the others would help me to catch up, and I would do the same for them.”

“The best thing about volunteering for me was seeing young people enjoy their day when they came along to visit the University campus. I enjoyed hearing what kinds of subjects they wanted to pursue at university. Afterwards, we received letters of thanks from the students and they seemed to get a lot from the experience which made it more than worthwhile for me.”

“I would tell anyone considering volunteering to go for it! Even if you are worried about the time involved, you don’t need to be as there is so much flexibility and the experience and confidence you can gain in your chosen field is invaluable.”
